Clomid (clomiphene) for men

I want to talk with you about a medication that some doctors prescribe to guys to try an increase their testosterone called Clomid. It is a tablet you’d normally take one day.

I don’t recommend this.

The way it works is to trick our body into thinking our estrogen is low. In response, what our body will do, is to send a signal from our brain to tell our body to produce more testosterone. We convert some testosterone into estrogens.

Yes your testosterone goes up but unfortunately not enough to make a difference. It also has some side effects that are not that well tolerated. Some guys take it thinking it will stop their testicular atrophy associated with testosterone therapy. It does not work that well.

I always say, “If you need testosterone, take testosterone.”

If you need to get your level back up to where it is supposed to be; back to where you fell good, you have energy, you have drive, you have stamina, you want to get off the couch, get out of the cave and go kill something and drag it back home, then you need testosterone.
